Prayer Ministry
Palisades Presbyterian Church believes in the power of prayer. We believe that God seeks a relationship with us and desires for us to share our joys and our sorrows. To that end, we have two ways you can seek our intentional prayer for whatever circumstance you might find yourself in: prayer chain and prayer quilts.
Prayer Chain Request
We have a vibrant, dedicated prayer chain ready to intercede on your behalf.

Prayer Quilt Ministry
The PPC prayer quilt ministry is part of the Prayers and Squares Quilting ministry, originating at Hope UMC.
What is a prayer quilt?
This kind of quilt is a “lap” quilt laced with pairs of heavy thread. These thread pairs are each tied with a square knot by a member of the congregation following Sunday service, or by members of a prayer group. As each knot is tied, the person tying it offers silent prayer for the quilt’s recipient. This quilt is a gift of love that can literally cover an individual with prayer. It is a statement of our faith in God and our belief in His power to comfort, strengthen, and heal.
Who makes the quilts?
Anyone who wants to! You do not even need to know how to sew; a chapter in Montana makes their quilts using two large pieces of fabric. Remember, the purpose of the quilts is to provide prayers through the tying of the knots. A quilt, no matter how simple, is a gift from the heart. Prayers and Squares groups at several local churches have made literally hundreds of quilts over the years, each a special gift of love.
At this time, PPC does not have many quilters, yet we have MANY quilts ready to tie for recipients (please note that we do not accept special requests regarding quilt colors or patterns). Please know that all the quilts have been made with love and prayer for whomever should receive it. If you are interested in making new quilts, please email us.
Who are the quilt recipients?
Quilts have been made for sick babies, for cancer and AIDS patients, for adults and children facing surgery, and those facing many other crises.
What is quilt tying?
As an act of communal prayer and love, the congregation is given a chance to pray for the recipient by tying knots with the threads on each quilt. It is a beautiful time for the community to surround the recipient with intentionality, prayer, and hope.
How to Get a Prayer Quilt
The protocol for requesting a quilt involves a few steps:
Ask the proposed recipient if they want a prayer quilt or quilt square.
If that person does not know about prayer quilts, explain to them the prayer quilt ministry (see the FAQs to the left for helpful information).
If the person agrees to receive a prayer quilt, ask what prayers they want offered, for example for healing, patience, strength, guidance, etc.
Contact the church office to request the prayer quilt.
A quilt will then be made available to the congregation to tie with prayers during fellowship time after an upcoming Sunday service, and you will be notified when the quilt is ready to pick up. Of course, you are welcome to join us for the Sunday when the quilt will be tied to watch the ministry in action!
