Membership FAQs

What is membership?

In Jesus Christ, God calls people to faith and to membership in the church, the body of Christ. Membership at PPC means that you claim Christ as well as choose to worship, learn, and grow in your faith at this located church. This also means that you actively participate, to the best of your ability, in the governance of the church. The church is not run by one person but is led by the community.

Why should I be a member?

Have you been baptized? Are you actively participating in the life of the church? Have you found PPC to be a place where you are being fed and have opportunities to share God’s love? Do you feel you as a disciple of Christ are being challenged in your faith? Are you ready to step more fully into commitment and have your voice heard here at PPC? If you answered YES to all these questions, it’s time read the question below for next steps.

What is the process to become a member?

If you have answered YES to the questions in the above section, email Pastor Cassie and set up a time to have coffee or tea. She will help you move into the next steps of becoming a member of PPC.

Here is how it usually works:

  • Email Pastor Cassie to set up a time to meet.

  • Learn what it means to be a part of PPC and what it means to be Presbyterian through the New Members Seminar with Pastor Cassie.

  • Go before Session to talk about your faith journey.

  • Go before the congregation to be welcomed into the PPC family.

  • If you are transferring your membership from another PC(USA) church, you will need to email your former church to inform them of your new membership at PPC.

After becoming a member, when can I participate as an Elder or Deacon?

If you are transferring from another PC(USA) church, you are immediately eligible to serve as an Elder or Deacon. Yet, we suggest you take at least a year to get your feet planted in the PPC community and discover where you want to serve.

If you are a new member of the PC(USA) as well as a new member of PPC, we require that you take two years to fully get familiar with how the PC(USA) works and to uncover the ebbs and flows of PPC. This will give you a chance to have the big picture of what it means to be Presbyterian and a member of PPC before stepping into a leadership role.

When can my child become a member?

PPC offers confirmation class for those students in 7th grade and up. This 5-session class is for students who want to declare their faith by becoming a member of Christ’s church in the located church of PPC. If your student is not baptized yet, they will be baptized during the Sunday service during which they go before the congregation to be welcomed into the PPC family. Participants will write a statement of faith, learn what it means to be a follower of Christ, and explore what it means to be part of the PC(USA). Email Pastor Cassie for more information.
